Frequently asked questions

When do varicose veins have to be treated?

Varicose disease is a chronic medical condition that steadily becomes worse. It should always be treated if it leads to symptoms or complications, or if it is likely that you will have symptoms and the blood transport is impaired.

Apart from their unsightly cosmetic appearance, varicose veins also carry certain medical risks. Left untreated, there may be discolouration and chronic inflammation of the skin. In the worst case, thrombophlebitis, deep vein thrombosis, and venous leg ulcers can occur. Waiting until the last possible moment to get treatment is therefore not a good idea and you should see your doctor promptly to prevent serious complications arising.

To be on the safe side, get your doctor to examine your legs if your varicose veins get any worse or new ones appear, even if you do not have any symptoms.
