Frequently asked questions
What is sclerosant foam?
Sclerosant foam is used for foam sclerotherapy of varicose veins. Instead of a liquid sclerosant, a special foam is injected into the diseased veins. Using a syringe system, the doctor produces the foam from a liquid sclerosant immediately before giving the injections. Sclerotherapy with sclerosant foam is carried out under ultrasound guidance, so that the doctor can clearly see the varicose vein and the distribution of the foam within it. Foam has an even more powerful effect than liquid sclerosant in sticking the vein walls together and is therefore ideal for treating large varicose veins.
