Frequently asked questions

Is foam sclerotherapy right for me?

After a thorough examination, your doctor will tell you whether foam sclerotherapy would be the right treatment for your varicose veins. In principle, sclerotherapy can be used for all types of varicose veins in the legs.

There are very few situations in which sclerotherapy cannot be carried out, for example, if you have a known clotting disorder with a high risk of deep vein thrombosis, if you are allergic to the sclerosant, or if you are unable or not allowed to move at the moment (for example, if your leg is in a plaster cast). Foam sclerotherapy must not be performed in patients with a known patent foramen ovale (a hole in the atrial septum of the heart) if this causes any symptoms.

Your doctor will tell you about the circumstances in which foam sclerotherapy cannot be used.
